How to go to job interviews when you are employed

Hey,

I work long hours from Thurs - Sun.

Available only on Mon, Tues, Wed to attend interviews.

Do you think it's OK to ask to schedule an interview on MON, TUES, WED? I don't want to take a day off on Thurs or Fri.

im afraid that delaying an interview for a few days will lose my opportunity. what do you think

any company that can't work with you to schedule an interview on a monday, tuesday or wednesday more than likely isn't worth working for.

in all honesty you got nothing to worry about; just explain you work thursday thru sunday and everything will be fine.

i wouldn't even bother explaining them current work schedule - when asked about availability for interview, just tell them Mon-Wed works for you. that's more than plenty of opportunity for them to work out the timing that works for everyone. i mean, it's not like your only available time is 6-7am on every 13th day of the month that falls on a Friday....

I asked my sup to take an earlier day to take care of some personal stuff the day before the interview. He didnt say anything beside "good luck"

lol He was cool about it. He was happy for me to leave that company...he's leaving too

I had an HR manager called me to schedule an interview for Monday once. I delayed it to a couple days later until my off day. She was fine with it. Went in, did well on the interview, and was told it was basically between me and another candidate...They ended up hiring that guy....So the lesson here is had I went in on that Monday, they'd probably make up their mind and i'd have gotten that job before they even get enough time to get to that candidate's resume due to my delay...lol

You have it a lot easier than I do. Having 3 days a week to choose from should be more than enough for any potential employer.

I'm trying to be very careful. The last person to leave where I work now, thought he had a job offer, he put in his 2 weeks notice, and before the end of his 1st week, the place he thought he'd be starting a new job at, told him they decided not to hire anyone for the position after all. He went to our boss and asked if he could rescind his resignation... he was told no. I don't know how long it took him to find another job, but he lost his here and was therefore without pay until he could find something.

I have been going out to my car on breaks to do phone interviews, but scheduling them for AFTER work as much as possible. Now I am going to have to take a day off because a company wants to fly me out for a face to face. The problem is they want to do it next week while I'm on call! I'm already taking someone else's on call, so I don't know how I'm going to get someone else to cover a day for me without arousing suspicions.

I had it a lot easier the last time I was looking for a job. I was able to tell my boss I was looking without any worries. Then again she was also looking, because we all had to interview for our own jobs since the company we worked for could lose the contract, as it was up for a re-bid.

Age old advice; don't burn your bridges until you cross them; a bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

Basically, don't quit the old job until you have the offer in hand for the new job. Unless of course you can go without pay for a period of time.

Well that was the problem, he had an offer in hand, then they rescinded the offer after he had already turned his resignation in here.

I will hopefully have several written offers in hand before I turn mine in, so if 1 doesn't work out I can take another.

Don't risk your job to fly out, LOL. I flew out for an interview, only to be told that meant I was in the top 60 candidates for something they were pulling at most 30 candidates for. (On the bright side, you could say you had a 50% chance, or you could go on the dim side, and say you were in the below-average group, LOL)

Or maybe they chose that guy for some other reason (who knows?) and you saved yourself some kind of disciplinary action for missing a day of work at the job that is currently paying your bills!

Ah, I misunderstood. Thought you meant he merely assumed he had an offer, not that he had an actual offer that was later rescinded. My bad.

yeah, the off 3 days seems easy to get an interview, how do you do it if you work 8 to 5pm Monday through Friday?
