basically its the same as a 5000 series switch from what i 've heard.. but also i have hearing that ATM is going to be considered as a legacy technology due to Gigabit ethernet technology advancement

There are a few websites saying ATM has been removed from the lab, infact ATM Lane has been removed but ATM still remains current.

For the R&S lab there is an LS1010 in the lab setup but it is supposed to simulate the ISP. The same thing goes for the Frame-relay switch. You configure the routers and switches in the enterprise from information that is given to you by the service providers.

You can do all of the ATM stuff with a back to back ATM connection.

there is a ls1010 in the lab...but you will not be touching that piece. The basic ATM you will have to know, is not worth spending the money for a ls.
