Write memory or write mem is the old command. Older Cisco routers will support this command, but you should use the copy running-config startup-config command on newer ones, or just abreviate it to copy run start or even just copy ru st.CCNA, CCENT, A+, Net+, Security+ -

You can still use write memory on the newer IOS's, but I am not sure if Cisco's sims like when you use it. I prefer to just type "wr". -

I double this. Also there has been rumors of the write command going away for over a decade.
