Technical Interview

jschreckjschreck Member Posts: 63 ■■□□□□□□□□
Good Afternoon TE,
I have a job interview tomorrow I really want. At the same time I am a bit afraid, last time I had a interview I really wanted I aced the human resources and on the third interview I had it with the Techies and I froze up.I am feeling sickly just thinking about it. I could not even tell them how to open Active Directory, and I worked on that for a year.

Any suggestions?

God I hate July, interviews.. and Sec+ on the 20th, and its the third time.

Do you prep for your interviews?

Sorry man I dont want to sound like a jerk, but do you have trouble remembering other stuff too? If you do, I'd recommend seeing the guys in white coats. And you should prep for your interviews, to reiterate what RK just said.

I think what gets a lot of people is that "stage fright" when you have to do a real presentation to real people for a real job that pays real dollars which might have a real impact in your life somehow. One thing to keep in mind is if you focus on worst-case scenarios ("what if I screw up all the questions?"), then you might end up stumbling into that act during the interview because that's what you're pre-visualizing.

Put yourself at ease somehow. Realize that it could be a lot worse. Interviewers understand that technical Q&A sessions can feel stressful with that under-the-gun pressure ... which I think is more self-imposed than anything else. Remember, they're not just interviewing you; you're interviewing them as well. It's a two-way street and both sides have power (because they might end up not being good enough for you either).

I've given up being worried in interviews a long time ago. If you fail the test, it's not the end of the world. You can review the experience, evaluate it, and grow from it. If it doesn't kill you, it can only make you stronger if you put the effort to learn from it. If you really love the subject matter, let it show through. Anyone in IT can appreciate that.

Thanks man, your right though its all stage fright. I just know how badly my family needs this income. It also sounds like a wonderful springboard job!

This might sound silly, but it can work, make up some questions and in a very serious manner have a friend/family member give you a mock interview. But, you and the other person/s have to be very serious or it will just be a joke and have zero effect on you.

If you have a good preparation, there nothing to worry. You'll be more confident in yourself and it's the most important.
I dont know what you prepared for your interview, however, use search box to find "technical interview questions", "technical interview tips" I guess. It's really useful.
    Good luck in your interview!

You just responded to a post from July.
