Am i in?

PPforLifePPforLife Member Posts: 60 ■■□□□□□□□□
So two weeks ago i had a phone interview, after the phone interview i was invited for a "face to face interview".

It seems like the interview went well, as they were walking me out, one of the managers said congratulations your in the running for the position.

So the next day i get a email from hr saying "I'm going to call the reference you have provided, you might want to give them a heads up"

So my question is, does this mean Im IN? (Im thinking... calling references is a waste of time, if your not gonna offer someone a job?)

People won't waste time calling references on people they don't want. Very good sign icon_thumright.gif

You might want to give your reference a call and let them know what's going on.

Excellent odds, but like most things in life, not final until it's final. Good luck icon_thumright.gif

Yeah calling references means they are very interested so just hope your references don't say anything bad about you icon_wink.gif

Yes that is a great sign!

However I would change the title of the thread. "Am I in" can be a little misleading.... icon_surprised.gif

Things are looking good. However i will play devils advocate and say, they may be calling your references because they are looking for more factors to decide between you and another canidate.

Probably being silly, but getting nervous that they havent called me back yet..seems like when ever they say "we will get back to you early next week" and if they dont.

They offered it to someone else, and if that person turns it down it goes to the next person and so on. thats why if you get an email from companies late during the week, its usually to turn you down. why just my thoughts.

Kind of wondering the same thing. I'm in the same boat as you man.

I was supposed to hear back from them "early next week" which is now this week. I had a great feeling about the interview as well, and even had the owner of the company joking about inviting my gf to move down there with me (the job requires a move).

Figured these were all good signs but have yet to hear anything from him.

This is always the hardest part of the process.....I knwo you are twiddiling your thumbs over there, but its usual....just relax and everything will work out for the good icon_thumright.gif

Probably beating a dead horse on this, BUT i care about it, so im gonna ask for advise.

So its Thursday and i still havent heard anything. I already called late on monday asking if she had any problems getting in touch with my references.

She responded with "No PPforLife I got them thank you. I'm heading out on vacation i will be in touch tomorrow.

"tomorrow which would be the next day." shouldnt she say SOON.

See this kinda sounds strange, "the next day". if its the next day, shouldnt she say "leaving early"?
(i guess it would be important to know if its tomorrow or next week since this will have a great impact on when ill be contacted.)

BUT ANYWAYS do you guys think i should call back today? (thursday)

If you have all ready followed up then I would just relax. At this point you either got it, or you didn't. If you don't hear something soon, I would advise to continue your job search and move on. I personally feel you should continue looking for a job until you have signed/submitted and offer letter. Sometimes companies do take a while, but if you keep calling them you are going to come off as impatient.
I bring nothing useful to the table...

As others have said, don't get so caught up on one job...go out and apply for others.

Also, be a little patience. The person just got back from vacation, so
    1. there's probably loads of work to catch up on
    2. Even if he/she did inquire about the position status, the hiring manager may have not replied...not everyone is as quick on their emails as us techie

Ya I have been applying to other places, seems like it's so standard to not get back like 2 weeks later.

I applied to a few place last week, and one place I applied to just called me to come in for an interview tomorrow.

Dont ya just hate that? You might get desperate and take a lower end job because no one else has said anything. Then sometime after, they will probably call you! Oh the humanity!

I hate places that do that. That's why I take everything HR says with a grain of salt and keep applying to places no matter what. Unless it's the IT manager saying you're in, I think everyone's full of crap.

Keep your head up PPforLife. I'm trying to. Just know that you can have anything you want, all that stands in the way is the work, which can be a "b**ch"!

    That's my philosophy anyways.
"You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done"

Don't sweat it. A company once courted me for three months before I started there... it happens. If anything, you are making yourself look desperate by calling them... it will hurt your negotiating capabilities if it gets that far.

I applied to 50 places before I got my first contract gig in IT as a Desktop Technician 1. It's only for 4 months, but it will give me experience in the field. Keep your chin up. Apply to more then 5 jobs per week.

    Look on Monster.com, craigslist, Indeed.com, careerbuilder.com, and LinkedIn.com.

DO NOT GO TO DICE.COM - ALL THOSE PEOPLE ARE DEPRESSED WACK JOBS! THEY WILL MAKE YOU HURT INSIDE. THEY DID FOR ME, BUT I GOT OVER IT! icon_sad.gif

I actually got my 1st corp IT gig from dice. It was only for a 5 day assignment though. lol.
Funny thing is, at these 4 "real companies" i actually think 2 of them, they already had someone in mind, but was just going threw the process of interviews.
