VMWorld 2011 - Qualifying VCP courses?

I've just found out that I will be attending VMWorld 2011 on the company's dime (yay!). I'd really like to look into getting certified since this may be the only year this company sends me to VMWorld before I leave.

I was wondering if I can avoid having to take the expensive VMWare authorized courses by attending specific labs/classes at VMWorld. Does anyone have any experience with this?

You can't avoid taking the training, and I'm not sure about this VMWorld, but last year at their Partner Exchange conference, they offered accellerated and discounted training classes on the weekend before the conference started. You could look into that.

Edit: Sorry, just looked and it looks like they aren't offering anything like that at VMWorld 2011.

The labs at VMWorld are self-paced as opposed to being led and validated by a VCI, and the presentations are not at all similar to what we cover in the courses.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll have to just wait and hope they decide to send me to the training in the future in addition to VMWorld....

    Scott.

Scott whats the word on taking VCP4 exam at vmworld? Also, are the labs going to need pre-registration? or can I just go anytime and take any lab? I asked the folks on the hotline and they didn't seem to know.

VMware are not offering VCP exams at VMWorld US this year. There are PearsonVue testing centers in Las Vegas though apparently!

As for the hands-on labs, at previous VMWorld events you could just turn up and wait for a seat to become available - I'm going to Copenhagen rather than Vegas so not 100% sure what they're planning for Vegas.
