Claymoore Member Posts: 1,637There's nothing fundamentally different in the commands between a dialtone recovery and a traditional restore, just a few extra steps as you swap the databases and merge the dialtone DB mail.
The purpose of a dialtone recovery is to provide access to email as quickly as possible by connecting the users to empty DBs while you restore the lost or corrupted DB to the recovery database. Because DBs are substantially larger now, restoring from tape (while people go without email) makes it impossible to meet Recovery Time Objectives. You can get them working with a dialtone DB so they leave you alone while you try to fix the original DB.
To see why an immediate restoration of service with a dialtone DB is important, try this experiment. Unplug someone's desk phone and disconnect their email, then see which one they notice first.
