So I was doing an ICND1 exam quiz on my Measure up CD when I had this question.


Is 192.168.20.5 a Public or Private IP address ?

I answered it was Private but the test said it was public.

Correct me if I am wrong here but I was under the impression anything that is 192.xxx.xxx.xxx is a privet address not public.


Please advise.

    Actually, it's 192.168.XXX.XXX, but, yeah, it looks pretty private to me, too.
       The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has reserved the
       following three blocks of the IP address space for private internets:
    
         10.0.0.0        -   10.255.255.255  (10/8 prefix)
         172.16.0.0      -   172.31.255.255  (172.16/12 prefix)
         192.168.0.0     -   192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)

    Yep, Measure Up done messed up. Check their website to see if there's a list of corrections for their material.
