If your going to recable your home network why not use CAT 6?

    EDIT

I will tell you how the service and the quality of cables. It is nice to have color cables for crossover and color for straight and I make my own T1s and try to keep colors consistant. What I have discovered is my lab looks like crap with 10 different colored cables hahahha LOL.

I am actually redoing things a little I might even change types of racks. What I have found is I have cables all over the place trying new things and then it gets so messy. So I am going to group routers with routers and switches with switches on a shelved unit and then make it easy to switch labs and then do topologies for them.. I am going to try to put pics on my blog so you guys can get some ideas but I need to be flexible and my goal is to be neater....I hope..I will post pics of my new way of doing my labs with my new rack..this is an experiment so here goes..hee heeicon_cheers.gif

I've always used monoprice for cables and other misc. lab items.

    Cat 5e Network Cables

1 each of the 10ft Cat5e are 1.59, 2 or more are 1.52. Just tossing it out there for consideration.

Likewise for me. They're very good for all types of items. Fast shipping and if you need to make a change on the order it is very easy to do so.

+1 - They have good prices and shipping is usually very fast for me.

I just bought like 35 cables on Amazon for 1 cent each mix of 3' and 7', with shipping it worked out to around 50 cents each, I only use them in the lab, but so far so good. I figured I couldn't make them for that.

But Cables and Kits waves shipping if your order is over $25 so you have to take that into account as well.

I have used Cables and Kits for a lot of equipment for my lab. They have amazing service and shipping was good. Plus they pack in a fun size M&M candy with all of the packages. :)

I forgot about the M&M's. That's even better than the no shipping thing.

    Your move monoprice.

    No, but seriously.

I bet the next purchase I make is from Cables and kits. I'm a sucker for that kinda stuff. Freshbooks.com ships a birthday cake every month? or week? to one of it's members. It's amazing.

I've done alot of business with Cables and Kits over the years, and I've always received excellent service from them, they're the first folks I look at for alot of things, not just cables (they're actually pretty competitive on used Cisco gear too).

When looking at cat6 cables monoprice seems to have the better deal.

    Cables and kits: 25 ft cat6 $5.19
    monoprice: 25 ft cat6 $3.26

Still ~ $5 per 25 ft cat6, monoprice still wins.

Monoprice is great, other than the fact that they were hacked awhile back. I had to cancel my card and dispute charges, etc. Not fun. I'm still a little wary of the site.

We got burned by the Monoprice security breach a while back (hope you enjoy the flat screen TV anonymous British guy), so now anytime we order anything from them we have to call the bank and approve our order. We haven't had to order any patch cables recently, but we'll likely start using Cables and Kits in the future.

Dang, I had no idea they had a security breach. How long ago did this happen? It's been a while since I ordered from them and thankfully it looks like my info didn't get out there.

March of last year. I know they've stepped up their security & all, but I'm still going to think twice before buying anything there.

yea, I'll still probably order cables and other networking equipment from monoprice, even though they had a security breach a while back.

Who knows, maybe they learned something from it. :)
