Work Market
You sign up and then you can join groups who can offer you jobs. I signed up yesterday and already did $600 in work today. They had a bunch of little printers that needed to be fixed and each was like $80. Really saved my butt, I needed some work ASAP.

instant000 Member Posts: 1,745I looked and saw the other people in my area on the site, I may be undercut on my rates, not sure what to charge.
Onsite
Hourly Rate: $150 /hour
Flat Rate: $500 /assignment
Offsite/Virtual
Hourly Rate: $50 /hour
Flat Rate: $100 /assignment
^^^ This is what I chose.
And I see another profile in the area, has this:
(no certs)
Onsite
Hourly Rate: $18 /hour
Flat Rate: $175 /assignment
Offsite/Virtual
Hourly Rate: $15 /hour
Flat Rate: $50 /assignment
I see another guy has this:
(He has A+)
Onsite
Hourly Rate: $75 /hour
Flat Rate: $75 /assignment
Offsite/Virtual
Hourly Rate: $45 /hour
Flat Rate: $45 /assignment

Hah, I'm not sure how serious to take this site just yet.
I'm thinking I really wouldn't want to hire someone without a drug/background check, but I'm looking through here, and I don't see tons of people getting assignments, and considering I'd have to pay for the drug/background check ..... you can see my obvious apprehension.
OP: Did you have to do the drug/background check before you got your gig? I wouldn't mind doing it *after* I actually got something going off the site, or was even offered work pending that, but don't want to sink money into this up front, if you know what I mean.Currently Working: CCIE R&S

themagicone Member Posts: 674I haven't got the background check yet. How I found the site was I was refereed by a job that didn't hire me. And basically I got a gig covering their overflow but I'm hopeful that some other places will pick me up. I added my checking account to get paid but haven't finished setting it up yet.
Most contract sites require background checks and you're required to pay. It's part of the game. I've done work for Electronics Field Service | Independent Field Service Technicians | FieldSolutions but in order to get work you have to had to some special favors or something. The only ones I get a chance at don't pay anything and I pass them by.Courses Completed at WGU: JIT2, LYT2, TFT2, SJT2, BFC2, TGT2, FXT2

reppgoa Member Posts: 151I signed up for it last week when I saw this post. Since then I have gotten 3 job offers. 2 were printer repair gigs and one was a malware removal. I didnt accept any of them, but I have since taken the site a bit more seriously. I opted to go for the background check as its 40 bucks and one gig can easily pay for it. The drug test is also 40, but I dont think I will do that.
I called the support center about the linkdin integration, and they know about it and are working on it. I think this site is a great idea, and I am hoping for some easy money. I dont think im gonna be making 500 a job, but maybe couple extra hundred a month would be nice. Its all in your expectations, if you expect unreasonable results, you are disappointed when you dont see them.
And yes, I shared my banking information with them, cmon people its 2011, if something happens to your bank account, its not like its actually gone. The bank simply reimburses you and you have full access to your stuff in less than a day. Bit too much fear mongering going on around online transactions. -

Yeah, its 2011...where your SSN, bank information and credit cards are all easily obtained and less protected than you think. Just last year, someone somehow got a hold of my debit card information and was buying World of Warcraft accounts or items with it.
Ever had all that happen when the rent, mortgage or car payments are due? Know how much work is involved in changing your checking account number from doing something as simple as losing your checkbook?
Do you not research anything that sounds too good to be true? I don't jump into something because I read it on an internet forum.

Glad you got some offers. I haven't gotten anything since the first day . Not sure what printers you go an offer on but if they are the Catalina ones they are easy and usually pay around $80 to $100 per site. Once you figure it out a site doesn't take more than 10-15 mins.Courses Completed at WGU: JIT2, LYT2, TFT2, SJT2, BFC2, TGT2, FXT2

It seems like if they paid you directly it would not be needed, but the site is the middle man that collects and distributes. I have had a few offers so far but have declined. Seems to be a cool site, but would need more info before entering bank acct. -

Everyone Member Posts: 1,661Interesting... Checking it out now. Anyone done any Offsite/Virtual work through it yet? I'm working from home full time now with my new job, but I have to travel for 1 to 2 weeks once per quarter. It would be nice to pick up some other remote work for extra money here and there.

Anyone know the answer to this? What is required to just search for what kind of work is available out there?IT guy since 12/00

That's the impression I'm getting too. Seems kinda like the opposite of freelancer.com, on that site, people post projects, then guys like us bid on the projects. This workmarket.com site seems to work the opposite way, people like us put up profiles, and people needing work done solicit us for it. -
Everyone Member Posts: 1,661Hmm, an hour after signing up, I got an assignment sent to me, flat fee of $200 to run 3 CAT5e drops of approximatey 120ft each in a town about an hour drive from me. They want me to provide the cable too... pfft.
Not my kind of work, so I declined. -

esswok Member Posts: 74 ■■□□□□□□□□they just asked me to work on some POS gear for $239.00, I found schematics of the exact stuff real fast and started to read it,
seemed fair enough if I was able to do it on the way to a prior scheduled stop. (Great)
Then I proceeded to the next accepting screen and a second task appeared, possibly for the same amount, (?) but it was located 100 some odd mile in the other direction. (?) Wow?
I am not sure if I am clear but driving a minimum of 6 hours?
And doing their advertised 8 hours’ work, for $239.00
Buying fuel, using your own car and tools, 14 hours work, I wonder if they could pay me in Chinese Yuan <-> RMB ?
Jeeze’z.
How do you get
Illegal immigrant, papers <-> I'm throwing away my ccnp and my mcitp
I worked dam hard to get Cisco certs and Microsoft certs, I have 20 years in IT.
