    Just to update this thread. If you forgot to click on send info to LPI you can do the following

    [h=1]Send Linux+ exam results to Linux Professional Institute (LPI)[/h]

    If you take the CompTIA Linux+ Powered by LPI exam, there ware two ways how you can request your results to be sent to the Linux Professional Institute (LPI):
    1. At the testing facility: Before the exam begins, your computer screen will display a results transmission consent box. By clicking on the box, you give permission for the test results to be forwarded directly to the LPI.
    2. After the exam: Sign in to your certification account after taking the exam. Click on the "Demographics" tab and then on "Update your settings" button to indicate that you want your test results transmitted to the LPI.
    You can revise your settings, including the option to forward your exam results through your CompTIA certification account, at any time.
    We send exam results to the LPI once daily.

    Got all 3 certs one after another. Process was very quick. Still waiting for my mail to arrive though.

    Within the same week, I received my Comptia Linux+, LPIC-1, Novell CLA. I sent an email asking about the Novell Data Center cert that I have seen on other blogs. I understand they gave you that as an added bonus. Will post when I hear back from Novell.

    Incorrect. If you follow the thread, the Oracle cert was labeled as a 5th cert by stryder...

    Has anyone who had recently passed Linux+ actually gotten the Oracle cert. I know the cert has retired and replaced. Does this still apply?

    As much as I enjoyed getting this slew of certs to accompany my L+/LPIC-1, please realize that the Novell certs are rather useless and are not taken seriously. I even worked in a Novell shop at the time and nobody had heard of or gave weight to the CLA/DCTS.

    L+/LPIC-1 is great for a first *nix cert, though. Even as a senior engineer I keep it on my resume to show that I know linux, which increases your overall value and worth, even in a Windows shop.

    IMHO the NCLA/DCTS is more like padding on the resume :D.

    The CLA kind of makes sense, but even then not really unless you work in a Novell shop. The DCTS however is not padding, it's fluff icon_wink.gif I mean...Data Center Technical Specialist...what does that even mean? What happens when an interviewer asks you about your 'Data Center' experience, since you list a cert that suggests you have worked in a data center, if you've never even stepped foot in a data center? Could be bad IMHO.

    True, if you have no others to list then it helps to fill out a 'Certifications' section. But, since starting this thread 3 years ago (wow how time flies...I was such a noob back then!), I can tell you that I stopped advertising the Novell certs pretty quickly.

    Padding, fluff, tomatoe, tohmato (phonetic spelling for ya).

    I think you're taking this out of context; you can be a certified "whatever" and not have any actual experience in that type of environment.

    Ex:

    Interviewer: "I see you're a VMware Certified Professional 5 - Data Center Virtualization? What experience do you have virtualizing a data center?"

    Interviewee: "I set up some up some VMs on my laptop at home."

    Earning the VCP-DVC and what it entails is much more relevant than passing the L+ and getting the DCTS...+1 at grasping for straws :D

    I think space on your resume is valuable and DCTS is not worth that space. Simlarly, I sat through RackSpace's free cloud course and received the CloudU certification. Do I list it? Nope. I just don't think it means anything.

    It's not grasping for straws, I was merely making a point. But hey you know what they say about opinions; everyone's got one and they all stink icon_wink.gif.
