OptionsJDMurray Admin Posts: 13,039 AdminI wonder how many of those wireless networks use their SSID also as their security passphrase.
I'm just saying, that's the first thing I check.

OptionsForsaken_GA Member Posts: 4,024I'm personally a big fan of the FBI Surveillance ones. But my joy from SSID names isn't from the clever ones. It comes form seeing default SSID with no auth, or weak auth. I feel the need to teach those people a lesson.

Optionshiddenknight821 Member Posts: 1,209 ■■■■■■□□□□Mine is currently set on GoSomewhereElse. When I live in the dorm before the school decided to implement the APs in the dormitory, I have my Airport Express SSID set as SillyRabbitAirportJust4Mac. I know mine is way too cheesy.

And then I check to see if their router password is admin/admin -
OptionsJDMurray Admin Posts: 13,039 AdminSome WAP software allows the SSID to have trailing spaces. That can be a suprisingly effective tactic to thwart common Wi-fi leeches.

OptionsBokeh Member Posts: 1,636 ■■■■■■■□□□Ive told my neighbor numerous times he needs to secure his router. He would laugh, and say if someone wants in, they can come on in.
Last night be buys a new laptop, and for some reason, it wont connect to the internet. I get the call after work to help him out. Someone else in the neighborhood found his open wifi, and changed the router password so he couldnt get in. You bet your sweet *** he asked for help then changing it back and locking it down then.
All it takes is one time, and people become believers. -
