Webmaster Admin Posts: 10,292 AdminI think 1 Windows 2000 Professional and 1 Windows 2000 Server with a cross cable would do, but perfect would be to include a Windows 9x client (ADS client, dfs etc.) and perhaps another win2000 server (separate DNS, and/or DHCP etc.)
Check out www.vmware.com if you are low on hardware. -

i have setup 2 win2k3 srv, 2 win2ksrv, 2 win2kpro but i could only open about 4 at a time.
so should i add also some win9x virtual machines

Older clients (Win 95/98, NT 4.0) aren't capable of accessing Active Directory and therefore wont be able to use DFS. In order for them to access these features, the Active Directory Services client must be installed on the clients.
The client for Win 95/98 is available on the Windows 2000 Server CD. It located in the folder:
\CLIENTS\WIN9X
with a filename of DSCLIENT.EXE
The client for Win NT 4.0 (must be SP6a) wasn't included on the Windows 2000 Server CD, but is downloadable from Microsoft. Located at:
http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/Other/adclient.asp
To see what Active Directory features are/aren't supported with the client, refer to the following web page:
