Hey guys,
I just wanted to say sorry for being so uptight and stressed and bugging you guy's all the time. I love IT and the aspects of managing Server's over the network and such. I have not had a vacation at all this year and have just stayed home and played video games and got out with friends once in awhile. It's very stressful when you can't go to the beach because your concentrating on your career and education.
I am 22 now, and I know I should not be stressing about this kind of stuff, but I really want to be successful in IT and want to get to the point of where I can manage servers and networks. I push myself everyday at my job in IT and education when I am going to classes. I hope that I can be as good as some of you one day. For now, I just got to keep on going to work and going to school. Racking up Experience as well as education is the key to success I guess.
That is why I am so lucky to have 4 months of Desktop Technician 1 experience under my belt and soon to be a Help Desk Tier 1 guy. I hope these posts are not bothering anyone. Just wanted to voice my thoughts. I will stop posting a lot when the quarter starts again because I will be busy.
IT is not supposed to be stressful, but I am making it out to be only because I want to be successful. I have pushed myself to be more open with people at my job and talk more. That's what landed me this Help Desk Tier 1 job. It's defiantly all a learning experience.
I just wanted to say sorry and Thank you at the same time

WillTech105 Member Posts: 216Armymanis, you shouldnt apologize about being ambitious/passionate about IT. I think that goes for all of us on the forum -- why else would we be here?
One thing is to ALWAYS keep a balance. I lost a relationship before due to only focusing on my career and at the end of the day it isnt worth it. Don't put your family/friends/relationships at stake because of IT. You could lose your job but the people you care about in life dont "quit/laid off" on you.
Keep a calender with a schedule to put in "6 PM - 9 PM" of study and then STOP and do something else (family, gym, etc). I know sometimes its tough to stop when your in the mode but thats up to you if you want to let it consume your life or not.In Progress: CCNP ROUTE -

I am saying this because I think we share a lot of the same mentality, and I've got a couple of years on you too..so I say it to help...remember that...
Lighten the hell up!
Some stress about your career is healthy. It's what keeps me going, personally- the feeling that if I don't work hard EVERY DAY, I will be a failure. If I didn't have that, I'd be doing nothing of value.
But while some is healthy, don't overthink it. Success is made of the continued effort day in and day out. News flash! If anyone puts in the time to study, and the apply themselves every day..they WILL learn more, and the WILL gain skills, and subsequently- sooner or later- they will see a salary increase as a result!
The world is filled with mediocre individuals unfortunately. You don't seem like one of them. Keep doing what you're doing, and enjoy the ride..and relax now and then..just not too much -
Armymanis Member Posts: 304Pretty much all my weekends consist of now is playing video games to try and get out of this world we live in. I like video games that take me away from real life. Since I will be moving to help desk though, I will be working Friday-Sunday and going to school Monday-Thursday so I am hoping I have sometime to relax at night.

As long as you can balance everything then keep it up! You have to get the work done somewhere along the line. I haven't been in IT anywhere near as long as a lot of TE's members, but I've spent my share of time getting here.
I'm personally a huge Summerfest fan, I go to shows everyday all day, but when I was trying to get into IT, I packed a backpack with my books and sat on the benches at Summerfest and read away. I still did both work and play . It was overwhelming at times... but unfortunately, that's the nature of the beast. -

Just make sure you don't overdo it, lest you burn out. I've seen plenty of good people lose the love for their trade completely due to overexposure. Some eventually quit, most just plod on year after year, day after day ... but I see on their faces that they would much rather be doing something else.WIP: CISSP, MCSE Server Infrastructure

Armymanis Member Posts: 304Yeah I am just worried about my future as an IT master. I want to be the best I know it will take a lot of studying, working and dedication! I don't have a gf and I can make time for friends and family, but I am willing to go far and beyond.
I got past Desktop Technician 1, which was just mounting PC's onto desks and dealing with hardware. Now I am going into the Help Desk Tier 1 position with 4 months of IT already going to be under my belt. I am ready to kick some butt!
I hope I do not go insane. Has anyone ever gone insane in IT? -

I shouldn't worry. If you are young you have it all to do. Burn brightly! Just remember not to fade away. Getting some balance in your life makes you a happier person and a more successful IT Professional. But that comes with experience! A lot of angst when you are starting out. My advice take a one year view on things, make a plan, professional and personal and execute it. You may get some bad karma for some of your posts in the interim, but emotional intelligence comes with wisdom IMHO, which comes with time -

Another hobby I'm gonna pick up is RC Helicopters (Indoor and outdoor). Currently, I only have micro type choppers to fly indoors. Hobbies are a good way to get away from it all sometimesCurrently reading: Network Warrior, Unix Network Programming by Richard Stevens -

I think what most IT professionals need to realise is..its a job. Is it a road to riches? Nope. It's a job. Could it be a road to riches? Well it *might* be.
In 1999 when the bubble was burning on the verge of bursting things were different. They are not now.
Enjoy the job for what it is and get on with your private lives. If ypu really are ambitious and so different, go for it. Otherwise..do your job well and collect the paycheck. -

Armymanis Member Posts: 304Thanks for taking my apology. I am just super stressed right now because I am trying to make a life for myself doing what I love. As well as having school starting soon. I always get stressed before school starts.
