WIC-2T Interface

in CCNA & CCENT
I read from the cisco website that that WIC-2T interface is used for Point-to-Point protocol or Frame Relay and Data Terminal Equipment/Data Communications Equipment. Are these the only uses for the interfaces? Are they mandatory for the 1721's if I want to lab with frame relay? Thank you!

Yes, they can/are used to interconnect routers and for frame relay.
Could also use wic1ts which are cheaper but they have only one serial interface and the wic2t's have 2.

Thanks for the reply. I don't see the need to buy the interface if I can practice all the labs I need (excluding frame relay) without it?? I'll also be saving around 30 dollars. -

How else are you going to interconnect your routers on "wan ports"
You need to know how to setup serial interfaces for ccna
and how are you going to setup routing between routers if you don't connect them ?

So if I was looking for the cheapest solution would this do for connecting my 1721 to an 831 router? GENUINE CISCO WIC 1DSU-T1 DSU/CSU INTERFACE CARD | eBay -

Thats not a wic1t.
I don't know if you can use two of those to interconnect routers locally.
I've only used wic1t's and wic2t's myself
You would need a wic1t in each or a wic2t in each or a wic2t in one and a wic1t in the other, plus the cable to interconnect them
Two of these

you can connect the routers with the wic-1dsu-t1, but you will need a t1 crossover cable
1--4
2--5
3--3 unused
4--1
5--2
6--6 unused
7--7 unused
8--8 unused
Once you have this, you can emulate a t1 circuit by putting the "service-module t1 clock source internal" on one of the interfaces."Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati" (when all else fails play dead) -Red Green
