CIW Exams

I was looking up a couple of exams for the Certified Internet Web Professional exams and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on these exams. I know a few people may have acquired some of these certs on here, but was looking into the CIW Site Development Associate. Does anyone know of any study material for these exams? Exam types?

I took the CIW: Foundations a few weeks ago. It is quite easy. Mostly Net+, Sec+ stuff, with some HTML and web page development thrown in. The list below is what is covered. It's a 30 question exam, with 30 minutes and a 63% passing score.

Internet connection methods, Internet protocols, the Domain Name System (DNS) and cloud computing
The basic functions of Web browsers, the components of Web addresses, the use and control of cookies, and browser use in the business world
Browser plug-ins and add-ons, and use of browsers to download and manage files
Databases as they relate to Web search engines, and ways to conduct basic and advanced Web searches
Configuration and use of e-mail clients, guidelines for effective communication over the Internet using modern Web technologies and social networking tools
Internet research and collaboration tools, software development tools, and the patent and licensing practices that accompany software applications
Issues and risks associated with the Internet, and the security measures that can keep your computer system and your personal information secure
Fundamental elements of project and program management, and the importance of acquiring these skills for all IT job roles.

On mcmcse.com there is a study guide for the 1D0-510. That was the only thing I used plus the w3schools site for a little HTML. There is also some A+ and a little bit of Project Management sprinkled in.

IMHO, once you read that guide with your HTML knowledge you already possess you can probably schedule the exam the next day and pass. It is that easy. If you wanted to prepare for those Master CIW certs, after 1D0-510, get uCertify for those exams. (Not for 510 though...it was easy enough.) uCertify helped me for the 435 exam (Javascript). It's now replaced by the 635 but I believe uCertify does have kits for that exam by now.

Many of us take CIW exams because we're in WGU or are Alumni. Otherwise, we'd never bother...lol.

Thanks Psoasman and erpadmin! I will go and take a look at the link you provided. I know I would be taking the CIW Site Development Associate 1D0-51B; is it similar to the 1D0-510??

Just checked the site and see how things are structured

It says the Web Foundations is embodied of all 3 exams seems like....

Network Technology Associate

That's the exam I took. I would just take the Foundations exam and not bother with the Site Development. I just looked through some HTML info, you won't have any trouble with it.

Cool, I have been studying from the mcmcse site with study guides and tests. Also, looked at a few things on the uCertify testing engine. Probably register for the exam end of this month

I recently passed the 1D0-541 Database Design Specialist examination. If you ever taken any CompTIA exams, I would say they are the same format. The database exam was the only vendor-neutral exam I could find.

I may take the 1D0-437 Perl Specialist exam only to prove to prospective employers I do know Perl. Been using Perl since it came out.

I would argue that you could take the exam tomorrow and pass it. Many people (including myself) were able to pass the 510 with just the study guide...the only thing I had to worry about was the HTML.

That exam made the A+/Network+ exams look like Microsoft/Cisco....(in other words, that easy.) I barely passed the CIW Javascript exam, but I passed nonetheless. (I just wanted to get it over with...)

@erpadmin Yea, I'm not worried about the HTML portion of it. Didn't mean trying to sit it that soon, but at least in a couple of weeks since I deal with web design on a weekly basis. If I am comfortable, I will sit the Web Foundations, otherwise just the 1D0-51B

Seriously, I can't stress this enough....somone with a BS in CS and a background in web development isn't going to have a problem getting comfortable with 510. It really is that easy. Download the ucertify demo if you don't believe. (Don't pay for it though.....save your money for the exam. ).

Cool, thanks man....I downloaded the uCertify demo and I agree with you....of course I wouldn't pay for it...we know too many ways to get around that

I'm with erpadmin, I took 510 a couple of days ago. It is one of the easiest certification exams I've ever taken.

Even if I were still into downloading the l33t wArEZ, the full version wouldn't even be worth the download...that's how easy this exam is.

I have so much access to legit applications, I don't bother with torrents anymore. And what I don't have access to, if it's a reasonable price...I'll just pay.

Chalk that up to either old age/better and higher discretionary income.

I've successfully passed the database exam. I believe it's the same one for WGU. I used the following textbook to pass it:

My point exactly.

The only thing I brushed up on was HTML, and even then it wasn't that bad. Your A+/Network+/Security+ certs will help you more than anything.

Exactly. I read up on the HTML and that was about it. The rest was basic material and common sense.

I took the CIW Web Foundations Associate exam today. I passed. I wanted to score in the 90 percentile but I know next to 0 about HTML, Perl, PHP, Databases and XHTML. As others in this thread mentioned, the study guide that is out there is pretty good (it covers about 85 percent of the exam material). And if you have taken Net+, CCNA, Sec+, CISSP, it's not difficult at all. With the passing score being 63 percent, you can literally walk in there and out. The only notes I have is the exam is 85 questions (I saw somewhere that it was 30). And the test proctor had no idea what the test was.

Has anyone done the Web Security Associate/Security Professional track? I plan on taking the test tomorrow. It just requires a 76%. And to get the professional designation: The CIW Web Security Associate course prepares candidates to take the CIW Web Security Associate exam. Candidates who also pass TWO of the following certification exams from third-party security training providers earn the advanced CIW Web Security Professional certification: http://www.ciwcertified.com/_resources/web_security_series.pdf I have Sec+, CEH, CISSP, etc, so it sounds like a pretty easy cert to get and it hopefully goes toward CISSP continuing learning education.

My fiance took the 1D0-510 Foundations exam a couple weeks ago and she said it was a breeze. She's going down the web design/development track so she's taking exams like Site Development Specialist, Javascript Specialist, Pearl, Database Design, etc. But generally speaking it sounds like the format is similar to CompTIA formats. Her goal is to get the bulk of them and retain the knowledge by mid-next year, nice thing is her current job she gets decent experience with them so it shouldn't be to difficult. She is just looking to advance in her field, Web Design/Development so these certs should help make her a little more marketable.

Thats great!!! I should sit the exam soon. Been busy at work with a couple of tasks and intiatives. In addition to deploying a site I was working on and working on my businesses site. All is coming to a close, just have to do some QA on the DEV environment I have for testing. Nonetheless, all of this has been helping me. Great to hear people passing the exams...AWESOME!!!!

If you have A+, Network+ and IT experience, these tests aren't difficult. You really don't need to study except for the web design, database and coding ones, since you'd obviously have to know about the topics. I took the security associate exam today and passed that. It was pretty simple, Sec+, Net+ and a little CASP/CISSP.

I am scheduled for the 1D-541 Database exam next week. I started another thread about materials, but will let you know what i think after i test and hopefully pass!

Yes...you are.

When you and Xcluziv take this exam and pass it, just promise me that you guys will say "erpadmin was right..." That's really all I can ask...lmao.

I stand by what I said earlier...you only need that mcmcse.com study guide. I passed WFV1 with a headcold.....lol.

BOV1 is a different story...you will need to spend your "over-preparing" on that one.

You guys will be fine. I think it took me less than 30 minutes for this exam. Most of it is common sense questions.
