So two days ago, I had the pleasure of reading this book:
Amazon.com: The Last Lecture (9781401323257): Randy Pausch, Jeffrey Zaslow: Books

While I'm sure many of you guys have heard of "the last lecture", It was new to me.

The book is about a Computer Science professor at Carnegie Mellon university who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was dying.

He was requested to give a last lecture at Carnegie Mellon university, it was recorded and got millions of reviews on YouTube, he called it "Really Achieving your childhood dreams":

[ Randy Pausch Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams - YouTube ]

He was later interviewed by Oprah and turned the lecture into a best selling book.

I took me two nights to finish the book, and it's really motivating in many ways. I could relate to the book, as the author is a computer professional who had a childhood passion for science. The book reminded me why I chose to major in IT, and how it all started. It reminded me of what really matters in life, and made me thankful for all the great things that I have. It made also realize the things that I really wanted in my childhood and almost forgot about. I can't recommend this book enough, extremely motivational.

So I'm curious, why did you guys choose to major in IT ?

I remembered that I had a passion for electrical devices in my childhood, and then came the computer and it was a whole new area that captured my interest.

About 11 years ago I finished my enlistment with the Army as a medical specialist. While contemplating my next steps I was told about this new career field. It seemed like everybody I spoke with agreed that just by getting my MCSE I could walk into a job making $80k/yr. Yep, I fell for it. To this day my only regret is why didn't I choose the systems engineer MOS when I joined the military. I enjoy what I do and the fact that my day is rarely boring is a big plus. Although I still don't have my MCSE. Maybe in another 10 years ;)

Edit: I just ordered that book. I saw the you tube video a while ago but didn't know he published a book.
