If I have a Raid 5 disk array on a Windows 2000 server would it get fragmented just like any other drive?
If so, would one typically use the standard Windows Disk Defragment tool?
Thanks

Webmaster Admin Posts: 10,292 AdminNow that you ask it this way, the name Disk Defragmenter is incorrect, it should be Volume Degragmenter... If a volume spans multiple disks (regardless of the type of RAID and whether it's hardware or Windows software raid) it would need degfragmentation like any other volume. Even though the RAID configuration may spread (stripe) info equally across multiple disks.
