It's 2513. It turns out to be a token ring LAN... Is it useful to prepare for CCNA?

Optionsalxx Member Posts: 755Its not the best but it'll cover 60 -70 % of the features needed for ccna
and you could use it for frame relay later on.
Or sell it on ebay and get something that can run an up to date ios
Some of the 1700 series - 1721 , 1751 and 1760
The 2600xm's
Or if you have a higher budget the 1800's
Can get 1721's and 1751's for around $20 with p&h
just make sure they have the plugpack with them and enough ram and flash for recent ios images.
The 1760's are rackable as are all the 2600xm's.
The 3600's are getting a bit to old and they can't run the more recent ios.
Same for the 2600's(non -xm)
Have a look on Wendel's certskills site
http://www.certskills.com/LabGear/CCNA/BuildLists.aspx
look through his 2011 lab series
http://www.networkworld.com/community/odom
and read through the recent gear threads on here - make sure to look at the thread dates
Another approach is to just buy a few switches 2950 and 3550 and use gsn3 to simulate the routers.
I personally prefer to have the hardware (routers and switches) but it depends if you have the budget and space.
Not that 3 -4x 1721/51 and 3-4x 2950's take much space.Goals CCNA by dec 2013, CCNP by end of 2014 -
Optionsalxx Member Posts: 755Forgot to say if you want to use the 2513 you'll need a aui to rg45 adaptor so can plug in a network cable
and a cbale or two for the serial ports.
Its got 1x token ring , 1x aui ethernet and 2x serial ports.
