Coincidental Math or Is There Proof?

in CCNA & CCENT
I was just reviewing my IPv6 domain on LabSim, and the instructor in the video just showed me this amazing "trick" that I failed to realize before. I wasn't even sure if it's just a coincidence like the movie, Number 23. Or even better example... The crazy math that people brought up after the latest Japan earthquake. 3/10/11 + 9/11/01 = 12/21/12 ("end of the world hysteria"). Or wonder if it is just me missing something here.
The instructor explained the IPv6 loopback address is ::1. When he mentioned that there are 127 zeroes and 1 one, he showed us the IPv4 loopback address, 127.0.0.1 and asked us if we are familiar with it. I was literally shouting, "holy snap!" Because I didn't see this coming. Is this really the reason why they came up with ::1?!
Or was it because it's very simple, straightforward and easy to remember?
