Client's forwarding VTP summary messages to VTP servers
MrXpert
I am using PT and setup a switch-A with a few vlans and a domain name. I then changed the VTP mode on switch-a to "client". I then connected a new switch-B to switch-A. Switch-B by default is a VTP server.I enabled vtp debugging on switch-B
this is what it said
VTP LOG RUNTIME: Summary packet rev 5 equal to domain polar rev 5
VTP LOG RUNTIME: Subset packet received, domain = polar, rev = 5, seq = 1, length = 238
How can switch-a have sent B a summary and subset packet when all the documentation I have read state that only VTP servers originate summary packets every 5 minutes or when there is a change on the network.

VTP clients also send those periodic messages.

thanks, it's just confusing when I keep reading contradictory stuff from those documented sources. Bryant being one of them. I've found this guide so will focus on it

Where does it say clients do not send updates? it simply states that clients cannot add, delete, or updates VLANs.
