Strangest PLace you have connected to Wifi / VPN while on-call ?
Hello All,
While on-call recently I had to connect over an air card to the company vpn riding shotgun as my wife drove down the interstate. That got me thinking of the strangest places I have connected to wifi/vpn over the years while on call. My current job provides me with an air card which helps out. I have been on a ferry, outside in the parking lot of a concert, and at a denny's to name a few.
A few years back before I had the air card I had to hunt around for nearby wireless access-points that didn't have encryption. One desperate night I found a school that didn't lock down their wireless so I sat on the sidewalk in front of the building for about an hour fixing issues.
Anyone else have interesting places they have connected from while on-call ?

On my on-call shifts, nothing fun, just Mc Donalds.
At a previous job I was the guy that woke up the On-Call guys depending on technology, once I called a guy for a very specific technology, the engineer was in Finland, partying at a club at 2 am local. He took down the customer´s phone number on a napkin and said he was going to the parking lot to call the customer from his car. -

I can get into our XenDesktops with my iPhone so I have done some clutch support on that in weird places. I reset a password while watching the Bonobos at the zoo, regularly do tech support between turns at the board game store, and even did some work while waiting at the doctor.I finally started that blog - www.thomgreene.com -

Thanks to smart phones and wireless/wired tethering, I can go just about anywhere and connect my laptop up with my phone.
I was fishing on a Saturday when I received a call. I went into shore, grabbed my netbook I keep in the truck and headed back onto the lake where i backed up and restored a SQL database from my boat while watching my bobber.Good times.

From a casino.IT guy since 12/00
Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands... -

I thought the point of going on "vacation" was to actually get away from work.
The bar - pretty tipsy - but I was the one working that project and the on-call was not able to do what was required and called me.WGU Progress BSIT:NA | Current Term:1 | Transfered To-Do In Progress Completed

Not necessarily while on call, but I did my Senior Project presentation from a Dairy Queen parking lot in the middle of the Monongahela national forest. I was late too and my wife was driving super fast as I kept searching for signal. -
