I'm on the job hunt now and Cisco is one of the companies on my list that I would like to work for. I'm considering sending a InMail on LinkedIn to 1 or 2 of the recruiters for Cisco. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Do you think it would seem weird? The people are 2nd degree contacts but I still feel a little weird about it.

That is not weird at all. it's kinda the point of LinkedIn, really. Go for it.

Agree. Just make sure your LinkedIn profile is perfect, free of errors, etc.

If your experience is good enough, and your profile reflects it, they may come after you.

IBM recently tried to head hunt me through LinkedIn for an Exchange SME position at their new Colombia MO facility.

I must get at least 3 inmails a week (at minimum) from Recruiters....I think a lot of them can't read though...alot of them send me jobs for development work, but my resume states I have administration experience. I think they just see PeopleSoft and send me what spec they have. I also get specs for functional work....lmao.

I have also gotten an employer that contacted me via LinkedIn. While the interview went well, I'm staying put. :)

LinkedIn is definitely good, but you are only as good as how your profile is presented. If it's not detailed, it's kind of a waste of time.

Thanks for the advice. I'll spend some time working on my profile, then I'll try and contact people.

I'm sure there either isn't much local talent in that area, or they've exhausted all of it already. I think they're having a hard time finding anyone that is willing to move there. They aren't allowing any remote work, so that is a limiting factor too.

I find no remote work rather bizarre. What type of positions have you seen for that area? I've seen some storage and help desk positions.
