Changed job roles today (promotion)

I consider this a promotion. I went from senior technicial team lead to transition lead. I will be focused more on processes and service transitions and projects. I was more in day to day prior to this role, even though there were some elements that dipped into the transition realm.

I will be officially working at home and never having to come in the office. This is my biggest raise. I will also have a training budget for the rest of my ITIL courses if I do indeed seek them out. My pay is pretty much the same, but I didn't want to come across greedy considering I was about to give them my 2 weeks notice a few months back on a closed ended resignation letter.

I can't thank my Boss enough and the support from the forum.

Remember keep striving hard and you will get where you want to go. Never give up.

My bill rate is still the same.

The "raise" is me receiving work from home 247 and a training budget if it's geared towards ITIL. The service company I work for is very ITIL so they see value in the overall framework.

Congrats! One of the biggest challenges with working from home is connecting with folks. I know it is a bit difficult for me, but I only work from home 1-2 days per week and I can plan out those two days fairly well; we have a guy on our contract that works from home (several hundreds of miles away) and he comes in one week each quarter... it is very difficult for him when communicating with the people in the office. Just keep that in mind and find a means of communication that works for you. It may be annoying to others, at least at first, but you probably want to over-communicate, a bit.

The other challenge is turning it off when the day is done. I have that problem regardless of my working environment, but it is even more difficult when you work at home.

Best wishes! Let us know if you run into any predicaments. I am still trying to arrange the PMP study via WebEx. Speaking of which, maybe you need a WebEx account for work, that way you can do "face-to-face" conversations, occasionally.

I am a little concerned because I only had 8 total months experience at my last tech lead job. However it is with the same company just in a different role. I'm wondering if I should just keep running the experience together/consolidate and list my most recent job, or break them out on linkedin and on a resume.

Any thoughts?

My schedule looks like this for now
Week 1 maybe 3 hours of work
Week 2 maybe 5 hours
Week 3 10-15
Week 4 same
Week 5 20-30 (planning)
Week 6 20-30 (planning)

So as you can see I am part time till January however I do have quiet a bit of vacation time to offset the hours missed. Besides I reallllllllllly want to get the PMP before January.

2012 is going to be the GMAT and applying for high level MBA programs. Hopefully top 25 but if not I will focus on a mid tier one. The main objective is to accrue as much knowledge as possible for mid level management and project management.

The moral of this story is don't submit a close ended resignation letter. It's one of the most idiotic things you can do, I speak from experience. My boss just shook his head. He said "Don't send that to me again talk to me first and we can possibly get you into a different role". While I am not guarnteed a job for 3 years like I had before, I am guarnteed 3-4 months of transition/project experience/work (minimum) with some additional work patching Unix/Linux servers. Obviously it's a bizarre career path, but I have a wonderful reputation with our customers and the service company I work for so I am hoping to stay on in any capacity. Eventually Windows 7 project will materialize and hopefully I'll roll into that as a Project Lead. There are a few other items out there, but they are immature at this point.
