There is actually a SQL Server certification forum. You can look there for more information.
But, yes. They are sought after (maybe the developer cert less than the DBA) but the information learned in studying for them has helped me a lot. These are not easy certs, though, unless you have tones of hands on experience. By this I mean a few years of having SQL Server development or SQL Server admin being 90% of your job role. I had little experience with SQL when I took the MCTS for SQL Server 2005 and it took me 6 months to scrape a 700. You must study hard and give time for things to really sink in.
