Has anyone had any experience working for ITT Mission Systems overseas? I've had 2 technical phone interviews and 1 personal phone interview with them and last week got an offer to work in Afghanistan for a 1 year contract as a network admin. Been filling out all the paperwork this weekend and was curious if anyone has worked for them before. I'm a Marine vet that's going to be graduating college in Dec so this is my first real IT job beside an internship. The pay and security clearance is too good to pass up.

I actually know who you would be working for. Be ready for 12+ hour days every day of the week. pay is good, but not what it used to be. as long as you save up your cash and not blow it then it would be a good chance to get your foot in the door. plus if you are good at what you do then they will offer you pretty much what and where you want to go to keep you. also, if you agree to extend past your initial sign on that is where the real money is at. A former co worker of mine did the initial 12 months then they asked him to stay on and he made as much in 3 months as he did in the previous 9 months and he got his choice of where to return to in the states.

if you are young and single then do it, make the quick cash, save it up and don't blow it and you will be better off in the long run.

I wanted to do something like this a few years ago, but the request was immediately denied by my commander in chief. ;)

While working in Afghan with many contracts i feel that they lack the knowledge, iv worked with plenty that were getting paid well over 100k a year and were not as good as geek squad level education. its just who you know to get you in door. but iv came across over 20 DOD contracts that should not of been in their position due to the lack of knowledge and the complete disgusting work ethic of these individuals. Not all are bad iv found a few that are amazing to work with and do more work that i would ever imagine but the bad outweigh the good. so when i was out there for 7 months we stuck them on nights because they were useless and i hope i never see these people again because they give the Real It personnel a bad name. All i have to say is take advantage of this now because these high paying jobs in these places wont be around much longer. Its a very good way to get your foot in door, while i was out there i met plenty of people that would put a good word in for me if i ever decide to get out of the military. Its really good money ill be going back for a year deployment maybe ill see you out there. i work with networking mostly other gear(worked with more contractors in afghan than military, was NICE!!!) but military has treated me well if u know ur **** it helps been promoted extremely fast for being in the Marine Corps.
