I'm setting up a lab with Win 2008 Server R2. How do I set up the IP, DNS and everything else to work with cox cable. Cox cable hands out a dynamic ip adress. I have a linksys router/switch/wireless AP also. Along with the server, their will be 4 clients. I'm also going to pratice using SCCM service.

    Cable modem in to router.
Then set up your internal interface on the router with an address (a private one)
Give the server a static address in the same range as your router with your router as the default gateway.
Turn off DHCP on the router then enable it on one of your servers.
Leave some addresses excluded for other servers etc
In DNS on the server set your ISP's DNS servers as forwarders

It's a matter of preference, but in my case I left DHCP active on the router. This way my wife and daughter's computers as well as visitors can get internet access independently of how many times I decide to blow away my lab. On the router I set a fairly small pool of addresses so the rest is available for lease via the AD server DHCP.
