Odd PC issue

exampasserexampasser Member Posts: 718 ■■■□□□□□□□
When I turned on my laptop this morning I found out that I could not load any programs. I rebooted, but the same issue persists and the system eventually freezes up. I'm finding my Windows 7 disc to see if I can do a recovery. If anybody has any ideas of how to fix the issue please share.

Can you do anything if you boot into safemode? What about if you boot into safemode with command prompt and then run explorer.exe?

Thanks, I've gotten into safemode and I can load programs. I've checked Event Viewer and I haven't seen any log entries that gave any idea of what the cause could be. I'm now running sfc /scannow.

sfc /scannow did not report any problems. System Restore did not solve the issue as when I rebooted to normal the issue still persists. I'll boot to safemode with networking and run malwarebytes to see if it's a malware problem.

UPDATE: Programs are now loading will see if things will continue to improve.

I've checked Event viewer again and I saw that Avast hung on startup.

UPDATE: Everything is back to normal now.

It is probably a good idea to go ahead and run super anti-spyware portable, tdsskiller, and maybe removeit pro just to make sure that all is well.

You could also check Reliability Monitor. It will give some basic information on what went wrong and when.
