Guidance on Project Mangment

Hello,
I am currently working in sever adminstration field but i am more interested in Project Mangment. And i would like to see myself as project manager in next 2 years.Is PMP certification right thing to do for the goal i set.
My qualification is Diploma in engineering (12+3)and work experiance of 5 + years.
Please suggest what should i take as part of achieving the goal.
