640/642 Study Notes

PsoasmanPsoasman Member Posts: 2,687 ■■■■■■■■■□
I have been self-studying for the 640/ 642 in preparation for WGU. I thought I'd share them, hopefully they will help out.
59 pages total, I typed them up after going through the MS Press 640, Server 2008 R2 Unleashed, Sybex R2 all in one, technet, and some notes from my labbing studies.
Had to break them up into 3 files, as original was too big.

    Very nice! +rep

I always hand write my notes, it just makes it stick in my head more. Had I typed mine out, I'd have posted them too.

    BTW, booked an exam yet?

I am waiting for next week to get my classes set up for WGU. I am hoping to take 640 as one of my first classes, as I've been studying for it since late July.
I used to hand write all my notes, but my hands cramp up too much, so I've switched to typing them up. Helps stick in my head better.

Great stuff my friend! I am about to start my MCITP:SA in the coming weeks for WGU so any extra resources help.

Thank you very much, always nice to find another set of notes to flick through to discover what I've missed. Hello, by the way - 1st post here. I'm seriously out of date and have finally taken the plunge to drag myself into the last decade. 70-640 booked for a fortnight tomorrow, I'm using the MSPress books and Transcenders, with the odd look at the Measureup stuff that came with the books - although there seem to be more than a few dodgy questions in there...

Nicely written and thanks for sharing with us. How did you obtain the labs you are referring to? Did you get them from the books you used?
Lastly, is there a reason you didn't make one document for 640 and another for 642? I realize some of the items may overlap.

The labs are mostly what is in the books, plus some of my own. The notes started out as just for the 640, but after looking through the 642 stuff, I saw there is quite a bit of overlap - mostly with DNS and Security concepts. It makes sense to study both, as they are both part of the SA/EA.

    Excellent notes. Thanks for posting.

I'm new to the forum and am looking to sit (and pass :) )70-640 in 5-6 weeks. Been using the MS Training Kit 2nd Ed and Exam Cram as well as using the works VMware env for labs. Handy being the company VMware Admin icon_wink.gif.

You might also check out the Server 2008 R2 unleashed for another source and technet. Since you have lab access, it helps greatly on the federation services and RMS to lab those out. The 640 exam asks detailed questions on the exam objectives.

    Hey, I'd be new here.

(only just) Passed the 70-640 this week and starting on the 70-642 (hope there's not too much AD CS involved!).
Thanks for sharing the notes, skimmed through and they look excellent.

    PP :D

There isn't too much direct CS on the 642 material. 640 covers it pretty heavy. But, the 642 references a lot of CS stuff, so it's good to know about it.
    Welcome to the forum.

I hand write mine out and then type it into word. Thanks for the notes going to add these to my MSpress Book notes and maybe upload the whole thing when I'm done.

Thank you so much for posting the notes here. It's going to save me a lot of time and i hope i wouldn't have to buy a books now to prepare for the 640 exam. Can someone also please post sample 640 exams here so i can practice myself and also see how they look like?

Some of practice exam providers have demos you can try. Kaplans has a demo you can look at.

If you can't afford a book, you will need to supplement with Technet. Amazon does have used books at good prices, though.
