    It's your mother...just fix it.

Exactly. I fix whatever my parents need. They don't ask too often, so it's never a problem for me.

Just this week my dad's gf has called me 4 times
If someone calls me and I'm unable to answer, and they call again, I don't call them back, and however many more times they try to call me the same day is the number of days I wait to call them back. I have the same motive at work, too. The reason being that someone in my office once called me 6 times on my desk phone (which if you wait long enough it'll route to my cell phone) to ask me to hang up a picture on their wall in their office. I was on a conference call at the time talking about adding some more servers to our data center. They then came down to my office and knocked on my door, they didn't go away... I had to pause the conference call for this person to explain what they needed done.

I must admit, i look very young. I promptly told them what my position was in this company and informed them that I am most definitely not the office janitor that moves their desks and hangs pictures on the walls.

They told me that they saw me "with a bag of tools" and that they thought it would be okay to ask.

Yea, because when I get it too much, I start saying "I don't know what's wrong" or "I don't know". I know how to fix it, I'm just busy or want to relax. My wife is #1 on this. I get the whole "But you're a computer genius, you know how".... Yea, but I don't WANT to. :)

She's asked me to fix her iPod several times. I can't help it when Steve Jobs company screws up.

I fix stuff for my family all the time. I do the Logmein thing as well. People outside of my family either know how to fix it themselves or know me well enough to know that food is an accepted form of currency so I am usually taken care of. The only thing that gets frustrating is when my mom gets annoyed when I can't fix an issue over the phone with some software suite that they are using for my dad's business, like accounting software. I'd love to help, but I'm not an accountant nor a specialist in that particular application. I don't just know how to fix everything in every app automagically.

I know Paul Boz wears one of his social engineering disguises from when we used to work together to all of his family gatherings to avoid this exact thing. His whole family thinks he is either a pest inspector or HVAC guy so they don't bother him.

Luckily I don't have to do remote support so that isn't an issue. But it's just the fact that under normal circumstances I wouldn't have been home at the time and I had some extensive dental work done. Last thing I wanted to do was start troubleshooting what was really commonsense. I feel we all need a break once in awhile and I get grabbed for the various computer problems a couple times a week (on top of hearing the stories of how terrible the IT person at the school is). But it is nice to see that others have the same issues and I really like the idea of saying I am in pest control, that will be my new go to job!
