1360 X 768 res on a FULL HD TV??

Hi

Snaffled me a 42" LCD Full HD TV last night namely the Hitachi L42VP01

Have connected it as a monitor to my laptop and can only get 1360 X 768 res although the TV supposedly is capable of 1920 X 1080

The laptop has always been used to connect to a 23" LCD as Full HD res so I know its not the laptop or the RGB cable?

I have asked a few colleagues in work if they think it could be cos am using an RGB as oppose to a HDMI but first guess it the TV will not have a different Native resolution per input connection

My guess would be over VGA it is limited to 1360 x 768. Some tv's do unfortunately have this limitation.

A quick google search will show many others complaining about this limitation.

Also, the specs indicate 1080p @ 24/50/60 over HDMI only:

Also, native resolution is different from what resolution it will accept. It will always display 1920x1080. It will just be using it's internal scaler to upconvert from 1360x768 over VGA to the panel resolution.

Dont have a PC or Laptop with HDMI output, currently connected to the TV using RGB

Got it off Ebay for £80 claimed to have intermittent speakers but on collection I was told it was mounted above an electric heater that when turned on would cut out the sound from the TV, I mean doh!! simply move the TV (hence snaffled)

I think RGB has a limitation, though I'm not sure what it is. I'm sure the highest you have tried is what the cable can support. An HDMI cable will definitely take it all the way up to 1920 x 1080.

It's not the cable.. It has to do with what that specific set can accept. I've used RGB @ 1080p.
