Interesting. I wonder what portion of the old TV broadcast spectrum this is going to use. As an Amateur Radio operator, I'm unsure whether to be excited or nervous.

I'm hoping this doesn't provide an enormous amount of interference for Amateur Radio. -

HAM guys still exist?
If it weren't for BBSes (and later, of course, that thing called the Internet), I would have probably done this myself.
One of my favorite movies (corny, yes, but I like it) is Frequency. -

Yes, and our technology has advanced with the time as well. Here are a couple of examples:
A.P.R.S. (Automatic Packet Reporting System)
D-Star (Digital Smart Technologies for Amateur Radio)
Oh, there was thread back in April where members of TE announced themselves as Amateur Radio operators. I'm a proponent of Amateur Radio because I believe it can invaluable during an emergency. -

Here's hoping anyone selling these devices or trying to build a large network with them has better luck than LightSquared. They did everything right... licensed their own spectrum, got the necessary government approvals, and started building out an LTE network, only to find that a few GPS devices were affected. Now, after years of work and billions spent, the project is at risk. One of their proposed workarounds is to not use all their spectrum, in effect adding additional whitespace between their network and GPS.

I think that's awesome! I was always fascinated by HAM radios and folks talking to each other all around the world. I just figured that with how far technology progressed, I ASSumed that HAM wouldn't be needed anymore. (with the extraneous capitalization, I realize that I was quite wrong.)
