I understand that all EIRGPs in a same AS should have the same AS number. Is OSPF's area number serving the same purpose?

They are mutually exclusive. EIGRP uses an AS number. OSPF can have any number of area numbers. OSPF on a router has a process id of interest to that router, EIGRP has an AS number used by all routers involved.
