Server 2K8 Virtualization issue

ally_ukally_uk Member Posts: 1,145 ■■■■□□□□□□
Hi guys I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, And have Microsoft Virtual PC 2007

I am trying to run Server 2008 R2 Virtually but am encountering a issue when I try and run it via both Virtual PC and virtualbox.

\windows\system32\boot\winload.exe

status: 0xc000035a

Attempting to load 64 Bit Application however this CPU is not compatible with 64 Bit mode

Processor is a Q8300 Which does support 64 Bit, I can install Server 2k8 R2 normally, Have checked the BIOS and virtualisation support is enabled

Any ideas?

Review this Intel spec page on that processor. Some Q8300 did not support VT:
    Intel® Core

That is almost certainly the issue.

I know this is a simple question but something you may have overlooked did you enable vitalization in the Bios?

Ok I have a Asrock board that I was having issues with Vitalization was on but it would not work I finally figured it out inside of the BIOS/UEFI I enabled CPU C3 State Support and CPU C6 State Support and it started working. You might wanna check your motherboard mfg site.

Got it working, Used VMWARE workstation 8 :) did some research and apparently Virtual PC doesn't support 64 bit

That's right... I forgot VPC doesn't support 64 bit guests at all.
    IT guy since 12/00

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
    Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...
