AUGDLP - Help with assigning permissions with groups

I have a difficult time understanding the groups of Universal, Global and Domain Local as far as when to use either one. I understand the Domain Functional levels, distribution but as far as nesting them together makes it difficult to understand among differnet domains. Any help is greatly appreciated.
