in CCNA & CCENT
Are these switches PoE? I've been looking at getting myself one of these switches for when I pass the CCNA to move into the CCNP. I already have 4x 2950's which don't support the crypto command. I do believe I have the highest IOS I can put on it (correct me if I'm wrong).

martell1000 Member Posts: 389as far as i know only the 3550 PWR models come with PoE support. they come as 24 ports with either SMI or EMI. i am not sure if there are 48 ports PWR 3550s but i never seen them around...And then, I started a blog ...

SubnetZero Member Posts: 124Martell1000 is correct the following 3550's models support PoE:
WS-C3550-24PWR-EMI
WS-C3550-24PWR-SMI
Now I have also read from Cisco that there is a 48 port model supporting PoE but I'm not sure which model that is? Here is from Cisco:The Catalyst 3550-24 PWR switch continues to support Cisco pre-standard PoE. All 24-port configurations support 24 simultaneous full powered PoE ports at 15.4 Watts for maximum powered device support. The 48-port configurations support 24 ports at 15.4 Watts, 48 ports at 7.7 Watts, or any combination n-between

You probably just need a CRYPTO image
C2950 EI AND SI IOS CRYPTO IMAGE

Timber Wolf Member Posts: 90 ■■□□□□□□□□While the 3550 does have Power modules they do not support PoE (802.3af) which is industry standard. However they support Cisco Inline Power which is the pre standard. It is important know which you are using because the two are incompatible unless you have a device which supports both. You can get away with using most older Cisco devices such as the 7960 series phones etc however if you want to power a newer device you will most likely need to use either a power injector or a power brick.WGU BS IT - Security

I do believe I have that image from one of the switches I got - I originally changed all the images when I first got them so I could learn how to ftp and tftp with no issues. I did backup all images when I first got them. I'll try it out later tonight or tomorrow. Fingers crossed.2017 Certification Goals:

Darwin84 Member Posts: 19 ■□□□□□□□□□Looking at getting a couple of 3550's. Is there any major drawbacks to these? They seem to be extremely cheap.
Looking at building a small CCNP Switch lab.
