I am a newbie to Cisco exams but having studied Microsoft exams now want to do my CCNA exams. The problem is which training material do I use. I have CBT nuggets CCENT (ICND 1) by Jeremy Cioara and also have Train Signal CCENT training material. The trouble is I started using the CBT about a month ago and then recently got the Train Signal CCENT material.

Which package should I use to complete my ICND 1 exam. I am now rather confused as both method of teaching is different.

Thanks

From my own personal experience, I would go with Train Signal.

I recommend both, and Offical Certification Guide too.

CBT nuggets is more fun but ypu have to dig deeper after watching the videos. i would recommend getting a book with it. for ICND 1 the choice of the book doesnt matter there are plenty of good ones out there...
    And then, I started a blog ...

Yeah, i'm trying to blow through the material for ICND1. I have CBTnuggets and Odoms book. CBT nuggets is AWESOME, he really explains stuff well and keeps you from falling asleep with his enthusiasm, but he doesn't cover everything. I'm going through 1 pieace of nuggets, then I read the chapter in Odoms book to reinforce it and learn the bits extra. CBTnuggets does explain alot of stuff very well though. As far as i've covered at the moment, only some gaps in the OSI - TCP/IP layering in the first couple of chapters I found I had to relearn extra stuff from Odoms book, but everything else is there it seems, i'm skipping alot of stuff in odoms book also as jeremy does cover alot of stuff well and i'll probably skip over subnetting in the book altogether as nuggets explanation is awesome.

I prefer Trainsignal. Some of the videos are longer but they go in to further detail.

Theres pros and cons to both. With CBT nuggets, Jeremy has a voice that is not going to put you to sleep. Also, the way the videos are set up is like a live classroom which allows him to draw on the screen. His subnetting method is also better than train signal's.

Train signal on the other hand is taught by chris bryant. He is very dry just like the cisco press books but he goes into greater details than CBT nugget's jeremy.

Final though: It is possible to pass only with train signal if you can handle the boredom. On the other hand cbt nuggets is more exciting but it is NOT possible to pass the ccent only with cbt nuggets.

I haven't tried trainsignal yet, but I think I will stick with CBT nuggets for icnd2 and further. The way i'm studying at the moment, i'm doing about 6-7 hours a day, so variety in training mediums is more important to me to keep me awake and motivated. When I get bored of the book, I just turn on Jeremy, and it's like you're doing something totally different. His enthusiasm is infectious and it's refreshing to see learning material like that. I also find he explain the big concepts extremely well, so it makes the small details that he misses very easy to learn from the book, which you can nearly just glance through.

    this.

another good thing to do is to jump to packet tracer or gns3 and just redo what jeremy does in the videos. its important to get very familiar with the ios since you really need it in the exams to pass the sims.

you know that you are ready when you start dreaming about configurations at night :D
(seriously happened several times to me befor taking a cisco exam!)
    And then, I started a blog ...

I would buy Lammle's book, read that and see if the topic floats your boat. Then invest from there. Only out the price of a book and you will learn something.

the wendell odom CCNA cisco press books are brilliant introductory books. you will definitely need something to go with the nuggets/train signal (this applies all the way up to CCIE).
i'd use the video's as an introduction to the subject then hit the books for the final points. after that lab it up until it clicks

I used CBT Nuggets for a high level overview of things. Then read the Odom book for the details.

Giving you a play-by-play of how you study probably won't work for you.

    Everyone studies differently.

Some people Lab prior to a chapter, some watch videos, some read (glaze over) then dig in deep, some people rush through the book once to get a overview, some focus on a chapter one at a time...

Some people subnet (to keep building speed, get faster) prior to any studying, some do it at work, or home, wake up prior to work, do it after the kids goto sleep.

The way you study is different than myself. Hell, I don't think I found my own study method yet. That's pretty darned sad when I think about it. Im probably going to scratch my first method and opt for someone else. I might end up trying to sacrifice a cockroach prior to reading to appease the Cisco Lords.
In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.
