    I knew I should have quoted. :P

On a note more related to the article... I'm glad I never subscribed to that way of thinking.

I'll make sure to polish up the ole burger flipper.

Edit: I think I'd need to buy one first.

I find it hard to believe from anecdotal evidence. I meet and work with way too many less-than-competent people who are very safe in their jobs. There also isn't a definition of what above average pay is. One person's above average pay is pennies for someone else.

I find some of this to be pretty good. I've never had the mindset to be at one job and stick there for 20 years waiting for a pension. I think all of us can relate. Why are we going for certs? To make yourself better than the next guy to get the next higher paying job. If you wait for a company to make you take a cert you will be lost in the wind.

Even the bottom is required to be better than average:

The same thing was starting to happen at the university that I attended. Average GPA in my degree for each class had to be between 2.7-3.1 and they would curve downward to make that happen if necessary. To stay in the program you needed to maintain a 3.4 average or above.

Average gets you kicked out and the quality of graduates is much higher because of it. It's a harsh reality that many get caught up in.
