cmitchell_00 Member Posts: 253 ■■■□□□□□□□The ridiculous part would be if the salary was crap.
I've seen many 2-5 years exp, bachelors degree, X certs preferred, know these 50 technologies..........pay is something like $12-$18/hr.
I've seen those jobs before and I've worked some to make ends meet in the past. However, I do know life is alot better in I.T. now and getting better everyday; I LOVE IT! -
Hypntick Member Posts: 1,451 ■■■■■■□□□□Looks almost exactly like my job. Throw on training of new engineers in our systems, approve and post of tickets for billing, ensure that all engineers time is up to date, projects are not going over hours, and be the primary point of escalation for the newer engineers and you'd have my job exactly.WGU BS:IT Completed June 30th 2012.
WGU MS:ISA Completed October 30th 2013. -
demonfurbie Member Posts: 1,819 ■■■■■□□□□□Now if we want to look at ridiculous job postings, here's one where they just gave up on figuring out the job title:
STAFFLOGIX
Also, if you find me an MCM who will work for anything in the neighborhood of $34/hr, I will buy a hat just so I can eat it.
i see postings like that all the time in my area for much less paywgu undergrad: done ... woot!!
WGU MS IT Management: done ... double woot  -

demonfurbie Member Posts: 1,819 ■■■■■□□□□□You see postings that list Microsoft Certified Master, arguably the MS equivalent to CCIE, offering less than $34 an hour? I doubt there's an MCM in the US that makes less than $150K.
check alabama ... its sad i know mcitp:ea that make 9 an hourwgu undergrad: done ... woot!!
WGU MS IT Management: done ... double woot  -
snokerpoker Member Posts: 661 ■■■■□□□□□□This looks like a pretty standard for MS jobs. I worked at one for a while doing tech support and most of the guys doing this type job had 10 + years of experience doing consulting.

edit: Most MCMs work for Microsoft, HP, or Dell, by the way. It doesn't even make sense to list it on a job posting because you won't get it.
An MCITP: EA with no experience could probably make more than $9 /hour doing odd jobs on Workmarker or Freelancer. Your acquaintance would do well to expand his or her employment searches. My company pays people in Michigan more than that to do level 1 helpdesk, work-from-home. If there's a big market of horribly underemployed US-based MCITP:EAs out there, we'll have to rethink our outsourcing strategy. -

MAC_Addy Member Posts: 1,740 ■■■■□□□□□□I love the postings I see: must be CCNA or CCIE certified. Hmm, there's a huge difference there. And the pay is only $40,000. Silly if you ask me.2017 Certification Goals:

I've seen a couple postings like that, actually. Hell, it's a pay raise. But the CCIE-level won't want a 17 per hour job. Not for the time and money they've possibly invested into it. Now a CCNA, im sure would be all for that.In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

Daniel333 Member Posts: 2,077 ■■■■■■□□□□Hey Cudder,
I honestly I am not sure if you are trolling or serious. But I'll assume your serious. 90% of those technologies are overlapping technologies. So there isn't much there really. Expecting someone to have a MCSE and CCNA was pretty standard 5 years ago even. Now days expectation is even higher.
I used to run a small NOC and we had 3-4 guys doing that sort of work, plus voip phones, vmware, storage and intermedia (host exchange, OCS, sharepoint, cloud stuff) and we had guys a couple years out of Heald happy to makeing the $35-45k we were paying.
You do your time, get good genenerist skills at these MSPs and then you specialize and move on.
I'd recommend you sit down and reread the job posting. Oraganize it, and get to work developing yourself to fit this roll if you seriously want to work in IT, well. Should I say survive IT for when this bubble bursts. It can't remain this good forever for us.Does any one else find these type of job postings to be ridiculous? This basically says we need you to be able to do any and all IT job functions-Daniel -

We, geeks shall inherit the earth with our witty prowess of profiles, clouds, packets, and fiber optical wiring. Really though, as long as theres telecommunication in one way or another, people will be needed to manage these areas where others dare not venture. In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.
