It's only been about 5 months but I started out in NOC and I have an interview for a NOC tier II/III position this Friday..so everything is going well so far.

Cert wise: I have the network+ and Linux+..currently studying for the CCNA.

In two years in IT I went from being a Computer hardware tech to a level 2 Noc tech. The certifications I had were A+, Network +, and MCP (XP). After two years I was making $15/hr.

Right after college I was able to obtain a Systems Engineering position (networking equipment configurations mainly) but realized that the drive and other factors were not for me. So I became a help desk coordinator and then obtained a System Administration position which I currently hold.

Though I really want to dive into networking really bad. I went through the Cisco networking academy, two CCNP classes, took the single composite exam right after that (I got a 785 needed 820 icon_sad.gif). However, I kept getting promoted in my company so I focused more on my work than my studies. Although, now I'm full force into CCNA and I will get it this time without a doubt (a lot more networking experience)..

    Only have my security +

Right at two years I moved from helpdesk to a mixed NOC / sysadmin role for a small business. Not long after I moved into sysadmin / JOAT work. I was about 60% done with my AAS, 4/5 done with MCSA, and had A+ and Net+.

I went from working in the Best Buy stores to working in the field. Lots of stories in my life come from years 2 and 3 in IT.

    Aint that the truth!
More high level access to systems (which you'll inevitably get after 2/3 years) will always mean more stories, some of them due to self inflicted mistakes or trying to hard to impress :D

    Lots of similar stories here.

I went from Help Desk to NOC Tier 2 in about 2 years.

At the time I had my MCSA, working on my MCSE.

For the first three months of my IT career I was working as an Intern. After that, I was a Help Desk Analyst for about 3 years before becoming a PC Technician.

Currently at 16 months in IT. The only cert I don't have listed in my profile is CCENT. As for the certs I'll have at 2 year, planning on knocking out VCAP5-DCA & DCD. My title's Windows System Engineer. Main responsibility is building and maintaining VM infrastructure.

Yes. This is my 2nd IT position. My first IT job was a Network Systems Admin for a small startup. I lucked out and skipped the helpdesk phase.

I'm probably the old fart here. In my second year in IT, I was a systems programmer on a Convex C2 mini-super computer. Back in the old days, if you wanted software, you either ported it or wrote it.

2 years in, I was working the internal help desk for Mindspring, essentially tier 2 support, though we rarely talked directly to customers.

Those were fun days, when the commercial internet was still in it's infancy.
