SQL Server 2012 Tracks

I just saw where the SQL Server 2012 tracks are announced. I thought there was going to be three tracks, but this shows there will be two tracks. They are:

Data Platform (this is related to an administrator)
  • 70-461 Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012
  • 70-462 Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases
  • 70-463 Implementing a Data Warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
  • 70-464 Developing Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases
  • 70-465 Designing Database Solutions for SQL Server 2012
Business Intelligence (this is related to a developer)
  • 70-461 Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012
  • 70-462 Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases
  • 70-463 Implementing a Data Warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
  • 70-466 Implementing Data Models and Reports with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
  • 70-467 Designing Business Intelligence Solutions with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Platform
Also, it looks Microsoft is abandoning the MCITP name for the SQL 2012 certifications and just calling them Professional-level certifications.

Now that is very different. I think those exams are much better targetted, though. Dang - I had really better get my self in gear.

I have been away from my studies only for a couple of months and it seems like the whole thing has changed.

It appears that now, before you pick a track like BI, you need to be a Solutions Associate, which means passing 3 exams related to both development and administration. I admit that I am happy with more development oriented exams, but I am not really looking forward to taking 5 individual exams in order to finish the BI track. icon_rolleyes.gif

I know this is a 2 month old thread but it doesn't seem the SQL forum gets much action.

Which one of these do you think would be a good exam for a SQL novice? I've installed probably close to 100 instances, backup/restore, move, set db security permissions, run simple queries I've put together. That's about it, I've made a few changes in the tables but usually always had someone tell me where they were and what I needed to change.

It really depends on what kind of role you are seeking. If you plan to become a DBA, probably 70-462 could be a good starting point.

Is it safe to assume that knowledge gained from 2k5 and 2k8 can be applied to 70-461?
