Network Engineer: Specialized Services Desk - IP / Broadband Service Provider

Hey Forsaken, what type of service provider do you work for? I work for a cellular telecommunications company as a Data Network Engineer where we support the cellsite routers (Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent) , aggregate routers (same), IP Backhaul (T1s, metro ethernet, IP microwave), and related OSS systems for my company's LTE network (MPLS/OSPF).

Hey Jude, I am working on my ALU NRS I at this time, hope to take it before the end of March. We use ALU 7705s and 7750 SAR 12s on our network. I hope to move towards the NRS II and tackle the CCENT at the same time....

I work for one of the largest cable and internet providers in the US. My team is responsible for break/fix, change management and install/deployment for pretty much every IP capable device in our division. Lots and lots of IP routing, multicast, and CMTS work

Sounds very similar to where i'm at. What CMTS are you using? I haven't seen CMTS mentioned on these boards very often.

    Three vendors:

Motorola BSR's - These are being decommed as we move customers to better platforms
Arris C4's - Love these freaking things
Cisco UBR7k/10k - The 7k's are likewise being decommed. The 10k's are a huge pain in the ass, as we're running them in M-CMTS mode. 10k platform is still a little bit too buggy for my taste, we run into some weird stuff. We've had several TAC cases where they had to haul in the software engineers to get really dirty with the debugs. We've also had multiple issues with SIP's and SPA's. We're deploying the 10k's because we need the capacity, but unfortunately, every time one of them has a problem, it affects a huge number of subscribers.
