I don't actually engineer anything. It's just a title. All I really do is level 1 firewall monitoring; device up/down, high availability problems, etc. It's not really what I want to be doing but the pay/benefits are right right now and they're paying for me to get some certs so I'll be here until August (my 2 years) at least. -

Arris C4's - Love these freaking things
Cisco UBR7k/10k - The 7k's are likewise being decommed. The 10k's are a huge pain in the ass, as we're running them in M-CMTS mode. 10k platform is still a little bit too buggy for my taste, we run into some weird stuff. We've had several TAC cases where they had to haul in the software engineers to get really dirty with the debugs. We've also had multiple issues with SIP's and SPA's. We're deploying the 10k's because we need the capacity, but unfortunately, every time one of them has a problem, it affects a huge number of subscribers.
I can feel your pain. We used the Big Band Cudas in the past. We're primarily a Cisco shop when it comes to CMTS and we're testing some of the Arris gear. We're running a mix of M-CMTS and I-CMTS at the moment and some regions are starting to implement the 3G60's on the M-CMTS platform. Running into all kinds of issues with some of those. This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the

Yeah, our Arris gear is all ICMTS, and our 10k's are all MCMTS. We've been implementing 3G60's as well, and yeah, they're a pain. It's usually hit or miss, the upgrade goes beautiful, or it's a nightmare. We need the capacity though. -

What type of gear are you running across your core? We're a mix of Cisco and Juniper at the moment. This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the

Same, collection of CRS's and MX's in the core, with 7600's aggregrating the remote sites to feed into the core. -

OptionsForsaken_GA Member Posts: 4,024Ya I worked for a Cable ISP before I came over to a telcom ISP and they used Arris C4's and they are nice.I knida miss working for the cable company it seemed to be a lot less issues with the coax network anyway.
Yeah, the majority of our issues are plant issues, and that varies from headend to headend. Some folks are RF gods, some folks... aren't. Honestly, probably our biggest pain in the ass are fiber cuts. Few weeks ago, level3 had a major fiber cut that took out 7 of our 100gig port channels, as well as other 10 and 40 gig links, but fortunately we're redundant enough that it didn't impact anyone... backup links were awfully saturated for a bit though. -
