What book(s) you can recommend on PHP, PERL, or Java? I know there are tons of materials on the Internet. However, certain authors are better in explaining difficuk topics, than other.

We are using PHP Beginner's Guide by Vikram Viswami at school. It's a pretty good book but nevertheless web development is not my cup of tea.

for programming and scripting there is so much out on the web, with examples to try out, and its updated contently. Not brought a book on programming for years.
