is CASP really much simpler than CISSP?

Hi Last year I failed the CISSP exam. Now preparing for CASP with study guide ISBN-13: 978-1118083192. I know more than 90% of this study guide already and score at the questions (after every chapter) very well. Is CASP exam really that much simpler? Anyone took the exam and can write a little review?

Why? CASP will not have any ROI until it becomes known by HR departments. I would just spend more time studying for the CISSP.

Sorry to hear that you failed the CISSP but you're not the only one. It's a tough exam.

On the CASP, I'd say it is easier than the CISSP but don't take it for granted. I was surprised at the depth of many of the questions. Also the CASP is much more technical than the CISSP. In comparison, the CISSP hits many administrative/manager level topics that I don't see in the CASP. I haven't looked at the guide so I can't say if scoring 90% on the questions is a good indicator of what you'll see on the live exam.

I continue to hear that CompTIA is trying to get CASP approved as a DoD level cert. If they do, and depending on what level it is approved at, it may get a lot more respect than it's currently getting.

I have to agree with Veritas. Failure is no reason to quit. The CASP has zero market value so why put your money into it.

the questions at the end of every chapter (official study guide ISBN-13: 978-1118083192) are much easier than those of the exam simulation from ucertify (legal questions, not brain ****).

I'm still studying to take CASP, but according to the CompTIA certification roadmap (found here: CompTIA Career Pathways ), the ladder goes:

Expert (hardest) - CISSP
Specialist - CEH / CCSP / MCSE Security
Advanced - CASP
Intermediate - Security+
Beginner - MTA Security

So I guess CompTIA is just trying to push this exam as a stepping stone between Sec+ and the more recognized certs.

What percentage of right answers you need to have on exam? Didn't find those info on CompTIA site and CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner Exam Objectives.

You didn't find an answer because there isn't any. You will not get a certain amount of points or percent when you're done answering all the questions, you will just be informed whether you passed or failed. Some insider at CompTIA might know, but revealing that here on the forum would probably equal breach of a NDA.

The CompTIA CASP would no doubt be better than nothing, I have seen however, that most secuirty job adds clearly state that CISSP is high on their agenda for applicants. Many also word it one way or another that, equivalent certs would be highly regarded, I still feel that especially here in Australia the CASP carruies very little weight due to its recognition.

I have no clues on which exam is harder, they are both a long way away for me.

The CASP is easier. Still hard in it's own way and with a much more technical slant, but it's definitely easier.

I have taken both CEH and CASP (the beta exam) and I assure you...CASP is significantly more difficult than CEH

I agree with you 100%. CEH is easy win.

The interactive CompTIA roadmap is pretty neat, but it's sorely lacking in regards to security certs. Other certifications from GIAC, Offensive Security, etc. are missing from the list. A lot of infosec pros won't put CISSP at the expert level either.

I agree with this. The CISSP is all about breadth of knowledge, not depth. Its tough to consider it an "expert" level cert if it doesn't require you to specialize in anything.

I finished the CASP book a few weeks ago and downloaded the test exam, seems to focus rather heavily on American legislation and procedures / policies & best practices. Thus it has low value for me as a European, so I decided to "skip" the CASP step and start focusing on CEH instead. Your post also prods me in this direction, thanks for the tip
