There is some intense conversation in here, and I admit I didnt read it all. But I just wanted to chime in and say that we are primarily IBM shop with a decent size data center and recently started deploying PureFlex systems for VMware hosts. So far we have had a mostly positive experience with them, their management software could definitely be better but we really dont use their software to manage our systems. I think the big kicker for the PureFlex is the cost benefit vs other brands out there (I dont know the specifics on this as I wasnt involved in this aspect). Your boss is probably pumped up about them because of the cost/performance ratio.

They support VMware, Hyped-up-V, KVM, and there own PowerVM as well as Xen also, and the whole thing is controlled through the flex system manager.

Just a word of caution, dont get carried away thinking the FSM is going to solve all your problems. Calling it "half-baked" is about as nicely as I can put it. ;)

You can't really say you don't like flame wars and then put in comments like
    Hyped-up-V
    and
    EMC/IBM/Netapp sales shitheads

    Just sayin...
