I've been asked to hang pictures, install keyboard trays, install a ceiling mounted projector, replace a light bulb etc. I also had a CxO ask me for her own "personal" technician that was on call 24/7.

    a) What does she mean by "technician"
    b) Was she a babe?

Yep, I've had that way too many times. It's got to the point where I just tell them that it's against company policy for me to fix their personal stuff. I had someone report me to my supervisor when I refused to fix their home computer. When they did report me, they made it seem like it was their work computer. My supervisor gave them a written warning :) justice!

I end up in this position a lot because it's a relatively small company and a few of the owner's relatives work there, including his son. They haven't outright demanded I fix their personal stuff but they do like to get around the policy by having the company buy personal laptops for them and then claiming they use them to work from home.

One of the other questions I get a lot is when people call me asking if I can take a look at "their server" because it seems slow (slow compared to...?). When I ask which server they're talking about specifically, it's usually some web page they're trying to access although, someone called the other day rattling off everything from network shares to Exchange, all giving them problems simultaneously. It's amazing the way restarting their computer seemed to fix the entire network. At any rate, there are certain catch phrases people like to use because they think it'll help communicate their problems, "check the server" being one of them.

I also love the question "is there something wrong with the Internet?"
"Yes, there's too many naughty pictures and spyware on it."

In regards to pictures, I was working on my sister's friend's computer. Issue was it would boot, but hang at the Windows login screen. So I put in a couple of CD's and was able to correct the registry issue without logging in. My sister's friend calls in a tissy pleading that I not login due to pictures on the laptop....still to this day I want to know what the pictures were lol

I used to do work for a law office. I got the task of moving all data from a lawyer's laptop to a new desktop. I found it was taking a long time to get the files transferred... so, I just happened to look up at what files were copying... they were quite obviously downloaded naughty pictures/videos.... I happened to find the folder it was copying... 13GB!

I also had to work on some other PC's that had some pretty bad pictures... such as an openly *** guy... that had lots of pictures of him and his partner.

At one of my last companies... the Manager of one of the shops asked me to help get his daughter's computer running again... found nekkid pictures of her.... LOL

I was asked by the COO to hang a picture for him...

Another time the COO called me in saying something was wrong with his computer... he couldn't hear the DVD he had put into the drive... I turned the volume up... told him what I did... and walked away.... a few days later, he called me in for a similar problem.... AGAIN... turned the volume up and walked away. LOL

I had a user that wanted some of our old equipment so that he could "learn" more about computers and IT. So, we gave him some stuff... the problem is... I ended up being his personal IT guy for the next few months... he'd call me after hours and ask me questions... and I just couldn't handle it, so one day I told him... "Dude, the purpose of this is for you to learn, right? Do what I do... use Google before you ask me." That got me in the doghouse not only with that person... but my boss as well. I couldn't believe it.

Had a user call and ask if I could call his boss so she could call the security guard and tell him to let him into the building. He was visiting a remote site, and the security guard was 'being a dick' (ie, doing his job).

The call itself wasn't unusual, but one of my co-workers had been called to a user's desk to fix something that required pulling out the desktop tower from whereever it was tucked away on the floor in that person's cubicle. The side of the computer was covered with about 3 years worth of boogers that had been flicked in that direction by said user. Thankfully, the manager supported her decision not to work on that system.
    IT guy since 12/00

Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...
