MCSA 2003 requirements and availability

Hello All,

Slight panic here. Have been slowly working towards MCSA 2003 as my first 'real certification' and i thought i had my path laid out pretty neat, but now i doubt.

I have passed 70-290, 70-291 and MCDST. Previously on MS website requirements for the MCSA were listed (if my memory servers me right..) that you need the two core, one OS exam and one elective. So core exams are done, MCDST would count as elective and i was planning to take 70-680 as OS exam (scheduled for this friday)

Now: MS website does not list requirements at all anymore for this, MCP cert planner is confusing, showing that i would need two elective - wtf? Where should i look for definitive information on this?


And, yes i know, MCSA 2003 is ancient, but it's the environment i am familiar with so took this path to go up. Upgrading to 2008 is well on planning also

Hello - it appears you are only missing exam 70-270 to complete the MCSA: 2003 trek.

Thanks for your reply! But are you absolutely sure? Can you point me to official source to confirm this. As as far as i know i should take one OS exam which can be for xp, vista or win7. And frankly, taking xp os exam (on 2012, having MCDST already) would feel a bit silly..

You don't need 70-270. 70-680 achieves the MCSA client requirement. There is nothing wrong with MCSA 2003. It will still be a valuable cert for years to come.

There have been some issues as a result of the MS change, and I think they inadvertently removed the old pages describing MCSA and MCSE 2003. MS has not announced an official EoL AFAIK, and even if MS does, it will only mean that the 70-290 and 70-270 series gone. People who have already passed the needed exams could still fulfill MCSA 2003 requirements with A+, Net+, 70-780, etc. The tests EoL, but the certs don't expire.

Thanks ptilsen, this is what i was hoping for and how i had understood it, but now information missing from MS site just really gave me pre-exam jitters.

If somebody would have official information still to back this up, i would be more than greatful. But meanwhile, final preparations for the exam

Took the exam 70-680 Friday, passed (970/1000) and indeed my MCSA is complete now.

Time to prepare for upgrade exams now, 70-648 coming up next
