what does it when your collegue says your doing a good job and manager says too and says you being working hard. Do they mean i was just doing my job doing what i was paid or does it mean i did more and deserve a raise or promotion.

I wouldn't look to deep into it if I were you. -
NightShade1 Member Posts: 433 ■■■□□□□□□□Like Akariclould says any good manager should provide feedback... And actually there are some people that like when you tell them good job!
and if you dont do, then they feel no motivation, i use to have a coworker that was whining about it that he was doing hard work and not even a good job he had....
Anyways it depends on the company and the manager
At least in mine if you really doing a good job, good performanace getting certified, then they give you a salary raise... happened 3 times already to me (im aware this does not happen in most of the companies)
On my last 2 job before this one i just get, good job! and like the grinch said they just gave me more work! and zero salary raise -
the_Grinch Member Posts: 4,165 ■■■■■■■■■■I always love when they tip toe around it. I once had a manager come up to me and ask if I had 5 minutes to talk. I said sure and we went into his office. He proceeds to tell me how much they like me and I am one of the best techs we had (I started to think about the movie Spy Game and the following line "are you going to dance all night with your hand on my butt or are you going to make your move?"). I said thanks and then they lowered the boom, a tech was working on an issue the previous day and while he thought it was fixed it was not. He also wasn't in that day and they knew I never volunteer for extra work so they "buttered" me up to hand the ticket off to me. Didn't have a choice, so I took and six hours later had an actual fix for the issue. Take it in stride and if they give you more work be sure to document it so that come review time you can say "you said X and gave me the following extra duties."WIP:

It is seldom enough .. let's face it, in IT we don't get praise, we just get complaints when stuff goes wrongMy own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com -
RomBUS Member Posts: 699 ■■■■□□□□□□Haha that actually just happened to me yesterday...My manager and team leader asked me if I had a minute to talk and they said they liked the work and ethic I had and really appreciated that I was part of the team. I had just passed my 3 month prohibitionary period so this was another reason why as well. We discussed successes and things I needed to slightly improve on I had during this time, it wasn't a bad talk or anything just going over employee review stuff. They began talking about future work and said I was going to get "bigger and more responsible" projects coming down the line, I just thought it was a good thing overall and pretty excited on any opportunities they do give me.
